Default .GBA Limitations

A .GBA ROM is not limited by hardware like an actual GBA cartridge; the cartridge only has room for 32MB, whereas the .GBA file can be made (almost) infinitely large. I've been looking around and, as far as I've read, GBA Emulators simply do not process anything bigger than that old limit of 32MB.

Why is this? Was the limitation in the GBA as well as the cartridges? Can we somehow break through this wall with editions to emulators?

Why would you ever need more than 32MB? Also I'm pretty sure the GBA was built with 32MB as a limit in mind. Theoretically it sounds possible but you might as well make a new handheld system over a GBA.

In my Rom, with a lot of HGSS and some BW midis, with 724 Pokemon, with a lot of new tiles and scripts, and with 32x32 overworld people I only use 17.4MB, the question is, What are you thinking do to use more than 32MB? these space is enough to make a extense hack.

If it accounts for anything, the largest Nintendo DS titles are only 512MB padded, however, the system (In theory, I still need to test this) can actually support a max ROM size of 2GB.

You know how some people go too far sometimes? I ALWAYS go too far.
In the land of reality, I just just curious about whether I could pull some nonsense like having a region quadrupled in size (as in doubled in both dimmensions) as well as having new connections and hidden areas. Nice to know I can up the resolution, too. Thanks for that, Kuchiki.

That's sweet. It also implies that the GBA could (at least) handle a slightly larger file than the implied 32MB max.

short of having maps on the upper limit of 1000x1000 sprinkled in like pepper ( which I don't think the engine supports that anyways ) there's no way in Hell you could possibly occupy 32MB of space short of being deliberately stupid and wasteful of it.

That was kind of the plan... I mentioned one of several things I wanted to do. I'm much more protective of the other ideas, but they'd definitely take up more space than the ridiculous maps.

Pin Name Dir Expl.
1 VDD O Power Supply 3.3V DC
2 PHI O System Clock (selectable none, 4.19MHz, 8.38MHz, 16.78MHz)
3 /WR O Write Select ;\latched address to be incremented on
4 /RD O Read Select ;/rising edges of /RD or /WR signals
5 /CS O ROM Chip Select ;-A0..A15 to be latched on falling edge
6-21 AD0-15 I/O lower 16bit Address and/or 16bit ROM-data (see below)
22-29 A16-23 I/O upper 8bit ROM-Address or 8bit SRAM-data (see below)
30 /CS2 O SRAM Chip Select
31 /REQ I Interrupt request (/IREQ) or DMA request (/DREQ)
32 GND O Ground 0V

Due to the number of address lines on the Game Boy Advance it is not possible to have a ROM more than 32MB.

24 bit address x 16 bit data bus = 32MB

Does that apply to emulators as well? It sure sounds like it'd only be a problem for real gameboys.
